Lake County

Three fires broke out in Lake County on Monday but they were quickly contained.

The first occurred around 2 p.m. in a field across from the 16000 block of Bryant Road in Lower Lake.  The blaze, which was between three to five acres and drew a response of multiple agencies, had its forward progress halted when it ran into a nearby creek 30 minutes later.

It was reported as contained around 3 p.m.

As women's history month comes to an end, Congressman Mike Thompson announced his pick for Lake County's Woman of the Year.

According to the Lake County News, Kelseyville resident Madelene Lyon was chosen for her work with multiple organizations such as the Kelseyville Food Pantry, the Redbud Audubon Society, and the Hospice Services of Lake County.

A former executive board member for March of Dimes Lake County, Lyon currently serves on the Lake County Board of Education and is the president of the Clear Lake State Park Interpretive Association.

It looks like the Lake County government is going to cleanup the area's abandoned cars as the Board of Supervisors cleared up more than $350,000 dollars in vehicle abatement fees last week.

According to Lake County news, the funding will go towards removing cars in the unincorporated part of the county and the cities of Lakeport and Clearlake. The fees reportedly come from a $1 registration fee added mutually by the county and the cities back in 1991.
