The Artists’ Collective of Elk is presenting a showing of the watercolors, created in the past two years, of one their newest members, Suzi Long, for the month of February.
Many of these pieces were completed en Plein air and subsequently mounted on prepared birch panels using archival materials. Each panel piece is protected from moisture by a cold wax surface. The images depicted are stunning scenes from various locations, including Fort Bragg, Navarro, Alameda, Giverny, and Baja.
A native Californian from Santa Cruz, Suzi has progressively relocated up the coast since 1965. Following positions as an executive secretary, Xerox technician, and sign painter in Honolulu, she established her mural company, WhimsyWalls.
In 2006, she settled in the Wind & Weather Watertower in Mendocino, opening her own pastel gallery and instructing visitors in watercolor travel sketching.
Suzi continues to conduct watercolor retreats and has traveled to various locations, including Baja, Walnut Creek, Carmel, Sea Ranch, and Idaho, to provide instruction to numerous individuals. She has received multiple awards for her work and is a signature member of the Pastel Society of the West Coast, an associate member of the Pastel Society of America, a founding member of the Mendocino EcoArtists, and now a member of the Artists' Collective of Elk.
Suzi focuses on continuous improvement, striving to excel beyond her previous accomplishments.
A resilient individual, she creates art to sustain herself and resides in her RV.
Her work is currently on display in our main room, and will remain up en masse through the month of February, after which it will be found throughout the gallery. Suzi will have an opening on 2nd Saturday, February 8th, from 1 to 3 in the afternoon. Food and beverages will be provided.
The Artists’ Collective in Elk is located at 6031 N. Hwy 1, Elk, CA, 95432. The phone number is (707) 877-1128. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., daily. It is a collective with 30 artists.
