President-elect Donald Trump insists he can do all the business deals he wants while serving in the White House, but a 2012 law barring insider trading by government officials could make doing so a lot more complicated.

The federal government will pay more than $100,000 to give someone a kidney transplant, but after three years, the government will often stop paying for the drugs needed to keep that transplanted kidney alive.

Two Democratic members of Congress want three federal agencies to work together to get a more accurate count of coal miners suffering from progressive massive fibrosis, the worst stage of the fatal disease known as black lung.

The request is a response to an NPR investigation that shows 10 times as many cases of the advanced stage of black lung as identified and reported by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.

Fire erupted on Thursday afternoon east of Route 128 behind Elke Vineyards in Anderson Valley between Boonville and Philo, prompting a swift response from Anderson Valley firefighters and CalFire aircraft that largely suppressed the fire by early evening, authorities said.

The fire was reported around 3:30 p.m., and by 5 p.m. had burned 20-25 acres, CalFire said. By 7 p.m., CalFire firefighting helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft had been called off, and firefighters were seen mopping up after the blaze.

Sheriff Tom Alllman took a moment this morning to call into KZYX and let the public know that the suspect in the Monday night shooting that closed hwy 101 between Ukiah and Wilits for several hours has been caught and place in custody.

Sheriff Allman was still putting together all the details for a report and will make announcement later in the day but for right now he wanted the public to know that the suspect is in custody and that the roads are all open and he thanked the public for thier understanding during this event.

July 2, 2018 -- High school students from six schools in Mendocino and Lake Counties were breaking ground on a new home in Redwood Valley last week. They were part of a new program called Mendocino County Construction Corps, where they spent the semester learning basic construction skills in a variety of trades. Right after the school year was out, they embarked on a two-week 'boot camp,' building structures for fire survivors.
