Republique Amazone is the first album from the all female West African music collective known as Les Amazones d'Afrique, or The Amazons of Africa. The Group uses their music to campaign for gender equality and address beliefs that perpetuate disempowerment and violence against women. They take their name from the Dahomey Amazons, Women warriors who roamed Benin for 200 years. Their sound is the sound of the diaspora of African music returning home, reclaiming traditional sounds outside of genre and time.
