Talking about suicide

Sep 15, 2017 -- A collection of stories and artwork by people whose lives have been touched by suicide toured the county during Suicide Prevention Week. Robin Meloche, the Mental Health Services Act Coordinator, gave a presentation at Manzanita Services in Ukiah on Thursday. KZYX brings you some of the warning signs, precursors, and advice on how to get help.

The Mendocino County Department of Transportation has scheduled major repairs to a retaining wall on the Philo-Greenwood Road, or County Road 132, at MP .96. The road will be closed from MP .10 to MP 1.8, starting on September 18, 2017, and ending October 10. The road was briefly closed by landslides and toppled trees during heavy rains in February.

Cannabis is the top agricultural crop in Round Valley.  Locals sometimes refer to it as Ground Zero for marijuana cultivation in Mendocino County. Despite the amount of such farming in Covelo, many residents feel they have been poorly represented in local cannabis policy shaping and they want their concerns and opinions voiced.  Dan Young reports.

The air quality in Mendocino County is likely to be affected by wildfires for weeks to come, according to the Mendocino County Air Quality District. 


Ongoing high pressure and northerly winds are expected to continue bringing smoke from southern Oregon and Northern California until the fires are out and southwest winds bring cooler temperatures.
