April 20, 2018 — The California Office of Emergency Services took responsibility for over excavations in the burn zones. At Wednesday’s fire recovery meeting at Eagle Peak Middle School in Redwood Valley, CalOES officials assured survivors that the state will replace excessive soil removed by contractors. One man said the excavations left a trout pond where his house used to be.

April 20, 2018 — Robert Carlson, the new general manager of the Mendocino Solid Waste Management Authority, gave a presentation on the organization’s three year plan, as well as recent changes. Carlson, who has the been the GM since September, told the board that the outfit now goes by the name Mendo Recycle, rather than the acronym MSWA, and that he has made some new hires. He also laid out plans for cleaning up illegal dump sites, and addressed the improper disposal of drugs and needles.
