Tribal and Naval reps talk about military testing

Oct 3, 2017 -- Friday is the deadline for public comment on the early phases of the Navy's upcoming study of an ongoing testing and training program in an area that includes waters off the northernmost parts of Mendocino County. The Intertribal Sinkyone Wilderness Council, a consortium of Native American tribes in Mendocino and Lake Counties, is engaged in government to government consultations with the Navy on the project.

Sep 25, 2017 -- The City of Ukiah and the Ukiah Valley Sanitation District are locked in a costly lawsuit encompassing agreements going back to 1955. Last Thursday, the Ukiah City Council sent the district board a letter, asking the district to set aside the lawsuit. With the next mediation date possibly coming up in October, a trial date in March, and a district board election in November, each side has a lot to say about the other.

A week after President Trump declared his intention to phase out DACA, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, students at Mendocino College attended a workshop where they were reminded of their rights, steps they should take to preserve them, and the scope of the uncertainty ahead.
