The new bridge on Orr Springs Roads, located about 5 miles west of Ukiah, is temporarily closed for some paving work today. The California Department of Transportation originally posted on Facebook it would be back open by 1:00PM Tuesday, February 14, 2017. However, the paving work is taking a little longer than expected and it will now open at approximately 3:30PM.
The bridge is built to withstand vehicles weighing no more than 20 tons. The speed limit is 5 mph and there are stop signs on either side of the bridge for one-way traffic control. An embankment supporting a large section of the road collapsed during a rainstorm on February 21, 2017, and created a 60-foot-long crevice.
