August 12th Martyn Bennett- Grit

Martyn Bennett was a Scottish piper, fiddler and producer who blended the roots of Scottish music with contemporary grooves. He was raised in the tradition of old Scottish music and storytelling and was also influencial in the Celtic fusion music scene in the 1990s.

In 2002 before the release of his final album he wrote "Representations of Scotland have become misty-eyed and fanciful to the point that the word Celtic has become a cloudy pigeonhole, this album allowed me to present a truthful picture and face my own reflection in the great mirror of all cultures. Bennett died in 2003 ages 33. His final album Grit has just been released on vinyl for the first time from Real World Records.
