Program Director

Alice has been serving as KZYX's interim Program and Music Director for the last several months. She is also a host of Women's Voices and host a classical program made up of new arrivals to the station on the fifth Monday of a given month.

Alice is a skilled classical train musician and is currently running an after school program in Anderson Valley as well as her own livestock management business.

Tuesday January 16th at 7pm on the Ecology Hour. Scientists are trained to remove emotion from the subjects they are studying, but can their sadness and mourning for dead and dying organisms bring a new fire to environmental activism? Emotional disconnect, which is productive for ecological thinking, limits the work ecology can do in the world and constrains conservation politics, and perhaps ecologists lives. In the next Ecology hour we’ll explore these ideas put forward in a talk given by Cleo Woelfle-Erskine, professor of environmental equity and justice at the University of Washington.

Madeline and Salomon is a French piano vocal duo with roots in jazz, but their new album transcends genre. The album is called A Woman’s Journey and was recorded in two days. The songs are a mix of originals and covers and speak clearly to the feminist outcry of today’s me too movement.  Chaneling Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, and Janis Joplin. The sound is unforgettable. Take a trio of the finest griot musicians from Mali and put them in a studio with western music’s most revolutionary string quartet and the resulting album is of the most rewarding musical collaborations you’re likely to hear. The musicians are Trio Da Kali, and the Kronos Quartet. Both groups have acknowledged this collaboration as among the best of their respective careers. The music speaks for itself. The album is Ladilikan the track we’re hearing is Garaba Mama.

Anti-Flag has just released their tenth album, American Fall. The Pittsburgh punk band is well known for its anti-capitalist stance and has been a strong advocate for class struggle and civil rights for over 20 years. The latest album delivers the same quick melodic punch as previous albums and the anti-imperialist lyrics are as sharp as ever. Anti-flag rages on at an ugly unfair world. The new album is American Fall the track we’re hearing is the Criminals.

Sean McConnell released his first album at the age of fifteen. Since then he's written songs for stars of country and pop music, and put in his time on the road. His latest album Undone is an acoustic version of last years self-titled release. The album was recorded live and alone, on analog tape. The bare bones of the music reveal his vocal prowess and allow the stories in the songs to shine through. Sean McConnells album is called Undone, the track we're hearing is Bottom of the Sea
