Listener Supported Community Public Radio
KZYX&Z is Community Public Radio for all of Mendocino County and beyond. We are news, information, culture and entertainment from around the globe and from just around the corner. We're a member-owned public radio nonprofit with nationally syndicated programs from NPR, PRI, APM and Pacifica and we are community radio with locally produced programs from friends and neighbors. And when there are fires, road closures or other emergencies, we're the best place to go on the radio dial. As a KZYX&Z listener you get radio from the neighborhood, county, state, nation and world. As a member you shape who we are and where we're going. Mendocino County, this is your public media. Come and be part of it.
Mendocino County is huge (larger than the entire states of Delaware and Rhode Island combined) with hilly terrain, making nearly impossible to broadcast to the entire county with only one transmitter. So, we broadcast from three places. That is why when you drive from one part of the county to another you have to adjust your dial to one of our three signals. KZYX&Z is the combination of our two federally assigned call signs - KZYX and KZYZ. It's our creative shorthand that let's you know what you're listening to on the radio.
We are a hybrid of sorts..we are not just community radio (radio that encourages volunteer programmers and focuses almost singularly on locally relevant news and information) nor are we just public radio (professionally produced commercial free radio). Instead we are a combination of the two: we feature some of the finest Public Radio programs available and we have over 100 local volunteer programmers.
We are radio that is non-profit and non-commercial. Our financial support comes primarily from our listeners and our community. We are community radio in the sense that our local programs are of interest to our local community. Those local shows are created and produced by volunteers in Mendocino County.
Mendocino County Public Broadcasting is listener supported community public radio.
