Tribute to Lou Reed: Tonight on Maps & Legeds
When Lou Reed and fellow members of the Velvet Underground sent their droning guitar chords and taboo-shattering lyrics out into the airwaves in 1967, the reverberations went around the world; rock and roll was changed forever. Although mainstream success mostly eluded him, the music of Lou Reed set the stage for punk rock music and for alternative and art music up to this very moment. In both his subject matter and sound, Lou Reed never compromised his vision, delivering gritty, searingly honest, poetic and sometimes painful songs about drug addiction, sadomasochism, artistic life in the midst of a cultural revolution, and just what it's like to be Lou Reed. Join Roberta Werdinger, host of "Maps & Legends," this Friday night (Nov. 1) from 7 to 9 pm for a special tribute to the Velvet Underground and Lou Reed, joined to the spirit of Halloween and Day of the Dead.
